INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY

Indira Gandhi National Open University, known as IGNOU, is a public research university located at Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, India. Named after the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, the university was established in 1985 with a budget of ₹20 million, after the Parliament of India passed the Indira Gandhi National Open University Act, 1985 (IGNOU Act 1985). IGNOU is run by the central government of India, and with a total active enrollment of over 7.14 million students, it is the largest university in the world.

IGNOU was founded to serve the Indian population by means of distance and open education, providing quality higher education opportunities to all segments of society. It also aims to encourage, coordinate and set standards for distance and open education in India, and to strengthen the human resources of India through education. Apart from teaching and research, extension and training form the mainstay of its academic activities. It also acts as a national resource center, and serves to promote and maintain standards of distance education in India. IGNOU hosts the Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL) and the Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET), initially supported by UNESCO.

In the context of providing high quality education, IGNOU has approached the task at two levels: i) as an institution, and ii) as a system-leader. As an institution the University is committed to quality and excellence in all its activities. As a system leader, the University envisages a proactive role for itself by sharing professional capabilities and resources, to maintain and coordinate standards of Distance Education in the country. As a system leader in ODL, the University is also undergoing the process of NAAC Accreditation.

The goal of the IGNOU DECE Project is to provide you with the essential abilities to deal with young children, up to the age of six, and to help you develop and manage daycare and preschools. As a result of using the IGNOU DECE Project, you will have a greater understanding of a nursery school’s or preschool’s work environment. It is beneficial if you have prior experience working in a childcare facility. We are unable to provide work experience at a childcare centre, nevertheless. Although this will aid you in getting acquainted with the daily routine and aspects of creche care, DECE-3 has created practical work around the house to support you.
